Sophisticated cameras from MIT

The next few years, a person’s privacy may become less safe. Thanks to sophisticated technology, the individual one can interfere with the privacy of other individuals. For example, in the photography world, has now found a camera that can penetrate walls. With this camera, though hindered bulkhead wall thickness, the photographer can still take pictures.

Camera that can shoot behind these thick walls, is the result of researchers at MIT’s Camera Culture Research Group. Not long ago, they’ve managed to find a method to do just that.

“People familiar with the echoes, but echoes of light can also be used,” said researcher told of the Camera Culture Research Group MIT Ramesh Raskar, Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

The principle of echo applied to the laser light to see objects hidden in the corner. Laser fired from the camera to a second wall which is opposite the barrier wall. By uneven wall surface, the laser will be scattered throughout the room. Some of the particles of light will reach the surface of hidden objects and reflected back to the wall in front of him. From the wall, the light returned to the camera.

Although released simultaneously, the laser wave back to the camera in a different time. Arrival time difference is measured by a camera with shutter speeds of up to two picodetik (2 a trillion per second).

Laboratory tests carried out by hiding behind a wall made dolls. Their homemade cameras managed to see the shape of the doll. Although not reflected accurately the form of dolls, but testing can accurately reveal the body of the photographed object.

Behind the camera, the researchers set up a computer equipped with software that can map the laser feedback. “Processing using mathematical techniques,” he said.

Unfortunately they have the computer software is still too slow to process the data so much. Currently it takes a few minutes to get the whole picture. They hope in the future could peek behind the objects in the room no longer than 10 seconds.
